Would You Eat That Lotion?

Give the gift of pure, organic goodness

We spend so much energy reading food labels and deciding which groceries to buy - wanting to be sure that we're buying the healthiest foods for ourselves and our families. Have you thought much about what you're slathering on your skin? Take a few minutes - go read the ingredients on your body care products.

Let me guess: phthalates (in synthetic fragrances), parabens, sulfates, polyethylene glycol, chemical sunscreens? Likely in there. These ingredients, and more, are known carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, and skin irritants, yet the FDA does not regulate these additions to skin care products. Here's a bit more information about why we should avoid these ingredients.

Recipe: Pumpkin Mac!

Have I mentioned that I have three kids, and a husband who loves comfort food?

Ok, I love comfort foods, too. And today was one of the first cool and rainy days we've had in a while! All afternoon I was staring at the new chunk of organic raw cheddar that was in the fridge and thinking about making baked macaroni and cheese. With a twist.

We do not eat cheese that often. Sometimes I buy a bit for the girls on taco night, then it ends up getting hard and cracked in the drawer of the fridge. But, man. There is something about baked mac & cheese, right?!

Chocolate Coconut Truffles

1 cup unsalted raw cashews

1 cup medjool dates, pitted

1 Tbs water

4 Tbs raw cacao powder

1/2 cup un-sweetened shredded coconut

Add 2 Tbs cacao to the shredded coconut and mix in a small bowl until combined. Set aside.

In a food processor fitted with the S-blade blend cashews, dates, water, and 2 Tb cacao until a thick paste is formed. Using your hands, roll the paste into small truffle sized balls; about 1 inch in diameter.

Roll the balls in the coconut mixture.

DIY coconut oil deodorant

Let's talk about toxins in deodorant today. Fun!

I spend a lot of time with the women I work with talking about how to eat the best food, create the most nourishing mindset, and how to create a routine of self-care.

Which leads to my thoughts on body-care products – like deodorant! Many will take a nice hot shower, lather up with lotion, spray some perfume, roll-on deodorant. But do you spend as much time reading body product labels as you do reading food labels (or getting rid of buying food in packages all together)? In my experience - not usually. Here are my concerns, and they should be yours, too, if you are serious about loving your body – from the inside out.
